SIKHS BEGIN TO WEAR SWORD LIKE A HINDU THREAD JANEO
The Sikh ideology is opposed to ritualism. Sikh is a religion of participation in life process rather than withdrawal or renunciation. Guru thus ordered his Sikh to keep arms with them to protect the downtrodden from tyrants. Strangely now the Sikhs instead of keeping a small sword have started wearing the symbol of sword like a janeo the Hindu sacred thread. This article in Punjabi from Jan.2002 issue:
