BASIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GURMAT AND DERAMAT

Meditation according to Sikhism is singing, hearing, reading praises of God as also study of Him. According to Dera Philosophy u got to sit in a definite posture at some lonely place, initially recite a word or two and then give up the word recitation and merely keep focusing on your thought and follow ur attention where ever it goes. Accoring to Gurmat, praises is name or Naam i.e Gurbani while according to Deramat, samadhi i.e focusing on ones moving thought is naam. On the other had name according to language means quality or praises. Thus it stands proved that the naam (i.e without praises) of deredar is also fake as he himself and his dera.





ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ॥ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ॥ (Guru Nanak, SGGS, p-222) Through Gurbani sing His praises. Thus following Guru’s teachings naam abides in heart. (Comments: There are thousands of pious stanzas in Gurbani which tell us that naam is nothing but praises to God and that Gurbani is praises to God. 



ਮਨੁ ਹਾਲੀ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਰਮੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਜੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਾ ਰਖੁ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਵੇਸੁ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਜੰਮਸੀ ਸੇ ਘਰ ਭਾਗਠ ਦੇਖੁ (M.1, SGGS, p-595) Here Guru sahib teaches us essential principles of religious living;  1. Naam Japna- Recitation of God’s praises, 2. Kirrat karni- Dignity of labour , 3. Santokh -contentment, 4. Bhao karam- love & humility in life.
  


ਜਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਉ ਚਿਤੁ  ਲਾਇ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਿਰਦੋਖ ਭਏ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਵੈ ਸਮਾਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥ (M.4, SGG, p-1423) Those who meditate on the God single-mindedly, with one-pointed concentration, with focus on Guru’s advices. They are rid of sorrow, hunger, and the great disease called egotism; they become free of pain. They sing, they chant His praises; in His praises, they sleep in absorption. O Nanak, through the perfect Guru, they come to meet God with intuitive peace and poise. (Please once again mark how Guru stresses on praises. Elsewhere we have given tukks where Guru has said that Naam or name means praises. This is a vital term which Gursikhs should clearly understand because the yogi deras are trying to confuse Sikhs on the interpretation of Naam.) (#518*)



ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਉਚਰਾਂ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਂਈ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ (M.2, SGGS, p-1239) I recite Name of the God who is beyond matter, so that I may go home with honour.  Bani of the Guru is naam itself and  I enshrine the naam within my heart.  (ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੁੱਕਾਂ ਡੇਰੇਦਾਰਾ ਲਈ ਵੱਡੀ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਧੂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਚ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਹੋਰ ਚੀਜ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ। ਡੇਰੇਦਾਰ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ- ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲੋ ਤੋੜਨਾਂ। ਸੋ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਇਕਾਈ ਜਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ। ਇਕੱਲਾ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ- ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂਕਹਿਣਾ ਵੀ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਚਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ: ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉੱਠ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨਾਂ, ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਸਨਾ ਤੇ ,  ਫਿਰ ਜਪੁਜੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰੇ, ਜਾਪ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਸਵੱਈਏ, ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ। ਟਾਈਮ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੜੇ ਸੁਣੇ। ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੋਵੇ; ਬਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਠਦਿਆ। ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ, ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾਨੇ। ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ। ਝੂਠ ਤੋਂ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਛੁਟਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ। ਸ਼ਾਮੀ ਰਹਿਰਾਸ ਤੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸੌਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਕਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਮ ਸਮੇ ਵਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਸ ਸੌਂ ਜਾਣਾ।)

KHALSA COLLEGE OF CORRUPTION

UNDER THE CONTROL OF CONTRACTORS

Little more than a century ago a Sikh institution was founded at Amritsar with the sole aim of imparting education to Sikhs. Khalsa College, immediately became a movement and, every conscious Sikh donated something according to one's means. It rendered great services to the community as itself also multiplied into seven schools and colleges. Today some contractors with their 'Boforing power' have hijacked the management, allegedly rendering it impotent and leaving the institution deviated from its avowed aims. The institution is in a financial mess. So much so accounts after April '97 have not been placed before Council. There are grave charges of irregularities and misappropriation of repairs and construction funds while the politically powerful management is applying every tactics to deny information. Committed Punjabis feel rather more concerned as it is, no longer adhering to its avowed commitment to Punjabiat and Sikhs. Imparting of divine knowledge and promotion, of Punjabi culture have not only been given back seat rather these have been completely ignored. So much so it is discouraging and harming Punjabi language. It is openly refusing admission to students with Punjabi background and prefers students from such schools which are affiliated to boards out of Punjab like the CBSE and ICSE. It is being alleged that it is no longer Khalsa of the pre-independence days it stands corrupted and deviated.

Foundation and Development A Sikh is by definition a learner or disciple, Guru Angad the ll Nanak laid the foundation of Sikh education and up to British  annexation the education was being imparted through Dharamsalas or the Gurdwaras. There were a few Sikh schools also run by some scholars like Bhai Juna Singh, Lakhan Singh, Ram Singh etc. which enjoyed the Lahore Govt's patronage and grant. Thus education was religion based and the most important institutions were maktab the schools of Maulavis, where the medium of instruction was Persian with Arabic as a subject. The Maktab were open to all the  communities. For higher studies there were Madrassas. There were Pathshalas for Sanskrit study and Chatshalas for education in mercantile accounting through the Lande script. The court language of the Punjabi Maharaja was also Persian as all the courtiers; Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus all worked in Persian though they spoke Punjabi. The Maharaja though had strong desire for-development of Punjabi but he could not think over on switching over to Punjabi, which was then considered a rustic language. He even wished to modernise the education and invited one American missionary to  start English school but had to withdraw his proposal in view of missionary's insistence on teaching of Bible in the school. 
After annexation of Punjab the British secretly nourished a hatred of the Khalsa for the bravery displayed during Anglo-Sikh wars by her despite the fact that her generals were secretly in league with the British. The British conspired to weaken this element and the best course they adopted was its division and tried to cultivate a cleavage between the Khalsa and the Sehajdhari. We quote Punjab Administration Report 1851-2. 
“The Sikh faith and polity is rapidly going where the Sikh political ascendancy has already gone. Of the two elements namely the followers Nanuck and the followers of Guru Gobind the former will hold their ground and the latter will lose it. The Sikhs of Nanuck with the peaceful habits will perhaps cling to the faith but the Singhs or lions that embraced the faith as being their religion of warfare and conquest, no longer regard the Khalsa now that prestige has departed from it. These men joined in thousands and the now desert in equal numbers" They rejoin the ranks of Hinduism whence they originally came and they bring up their children as Hindus. The scared tank at Umritsar is less thronged than formerly and the attendance at the annual festivals is diminishing yearly.”
MAN WITH A VISION 
Sir Sunder Singh Majithi  (1872 – 1941)  Khalsa College owe a lot to this man. He "persuaded Sikhs to donate money to the Sikh institution and involved the Sikh states in this noble project. Once he went to the extent of spreading his 'jholi' before everybody seeking donation. Hindu Mahants who then 'had control over the Sikh Gurdwaras were not fair towards the depressed classes Sikhs. Majithia led a procession of Majahbi Sikhs to the Golden Temple and entered into a dialogue with the Mahants. Mahants were clueless and measureless before the Sardar and agreed that Sikhism don't recognize any caste distinctions. Being Brahmins however they could not afford to bless the congregation with the 'prasad' and preferred to fled from the scene. On the evening of his life Majithia was a disgruntled man. He knew that the British were leaving while the Sikhs lacked leader with some far-sight. He knew that the then Akalis under Master Tara Singh would not be able to secure anything for the Sikhs. 
The outcome of the propaganda had far reaching consequences. Already there was all round demoralisation in Khalsa. "The Sikhs roughly estimated to be about 1 crore during the height of Sikh State dwindled to a mere 17,16,144 in 1881 census." Its leading communities such as Khatris, Aroras and Brahmins who provided the ideological and logistical support to Khalsa were fast lapsing into Hinduism. Swami Dayanand's Arya Samaj was a big relief for such urbanised Sikhs. These were the days when the Sikhs lost their leaders who possessed some educated numbers. 
The Mutiny of 1857 changed the whole outlook of the British who felt that preservation of separate Khalsa ideology was also in their interest which meant division of Punjabis. 
It was an era of education ' renaissance in Punjab Govt. college Lahore was set up in 1864, Anjuman-l- Punjab in 1865. University College in 1870, University in 1882 and DAV College in 1886. It was the British themselves who wanted some Sikh institution to save Sikhism whatever little of it was left. A Sikh college committee with president WRM Haroyed was formed whose efforts culminated into the set up of a Sikh institution whose foundation was laid on March 5, 1892-the premier Sikh education institution was named Khalsa College. Govt. Ievied a takka per rupee on the farmers of Punjab to help the institution financially. Several dedicated Sikhs like Sir Sunder Singh Majithia later put everything of theirs at stake for growth of this tree. 
Its founders had visualised seeing this institution ultimately taking the shape of a university and accordingly large areas of land were acquired. However when the idea of setting up of University at Amritsar was mooted in (nineteen sixties) the Khalsas did not stake any claim for conversion of the college into University rather they handed over a large chunk of land about 250/300 acres to the proposed university for a paltry sum of about Rs.55 Lac. It is being alleged that Bishan Singh Samundari the then Principal of Khalsa College was used for this purpose as he was given a promise of vice-chancellorship and rest of the job was all managed by Samundri. Samundri disclosed the secrets about the management and thus the naivety of Suriit Singh Malithia came handy to them. Had there been a man of Sir Sunder Singh Maiithia's vision Khalsa College would have been a university today. 
Aims and objectives of the institution according to its constitution are 
(1) To impart Sikh youths such education to raise the status of Sikh community and 
(2) (ii) to promote morality and to preach teachings of Ten Gui'us as contained in Sri Guru Granth Sahib; to imbue students of the Sikh faith with idealism and moral disciplines taught by the Gurus. 
(3) Further clause 55-B of the Constitution provides that the Sikh religious instruction shall be an integral part of the College and School curriculum and every student shall be required to attend the fixed percentage of lessons. 
Constitution of Khalsa College is democratic in letter and spirit. It is owned by a society, to be controlled by the Governing Council [GC] of 100 elected Amritdhari Sikhs. The day to day administration of the Society is to be carried out by a Management Commiftee [MC] 
KHALSA GLORY ON THE DECLINE During a study of this institution we have talked to some GC rnembers and most of them agreed that at least the activities of the present management are no longer transparent. A group of some GC members is particularly crusading to restore transparency [We call it Transparency TP Group]
May be many of the allegations of TP Group are incorrect or there is some political motivation behind but the collision of some MC members with the suppliers and contractors and the bank statements of the accounts of some contractors seem to confirm some of the allegations . 
Crores of rupees are being spent in the name of Repairs and Maintenance under the sweet will and discretion of three members who happen to be contractors. There are allegations that Secretary of the Building committee himself is the proxy contractor under dummy names and persons. Naturally he would not like to allot works on merit and accordingly the college has not floated any tenders to invite competitive bids. It is also being alleged that as some contractors have their construction projects elsewhere, they purchase material at lower rates and the supplier is compensated through premium rates for their supplies to Khalsa College. If there is such case simply the ‘boforing' takes place. 
With their 'boforing' power the contractors have virtually rendered the management impotent. They have been using Mr. Majitha for many years and now he is sick and in a deep-sleep making the job thus easier for them: 
As we know the politician due to expensive elections are in dire need of money the politicians easily fall prey to contractors and this is perhaps true in this case also. It is also being alleged that the secret of Khalsa College receiving liberal donations is that a major part of money is returned to the politician donating from his official funds. Since the contractors are controlling it for a long time now they have allegedly made the entire executive impotent while if some innocent and honest employee resists them he is simply turned out. They may go to the extent of disbanding the whole department if some 'erring' honest employee is to be sacked. One wonders why the Govt is silent especially when funds running into crores are diverted to the institution 
We have also been able to lay our hands on a volume of correspondence, which T.P Group has made with the Management. From correspondence one is easily able to make out that the Management has endeavoured to maintain secrecy of information even from those who are legitimately and legally entitled to it. 
The Khalsas with a very high fee structure besides the college also charges lucrative donations 
I Rs. One lac -M.Sc. Chemistry, 
30,000-MCBA, 
10,000 -B. Com. Etc.
 They are often tight with the finances and have to resort to selling of land.. While other colleges with lower fee structure are doing well and expanding with a speed any body would be envious. 
lt is a clear signal for the Khalsa well-wishers that they should do something to restore the glory of this pride of the Sikhs. On this front major responsibility lies on the shoulders of educated and intellectual Sikhs. 
No religious instruction is being imparted neither the glory of Punjabiat being taught in violation of the aims and objectives of the college. Out of 7 institutions run by Khalsa College Society: namely, Khalsa College (proper), College for Women, Agriculture college, senior secondary schools for boys, girls high school, public school, College of Education only 3 schools have teachers for religious instruction (but not well defined curriculum) rest of the institutions do not have any divinity teachers and absolutely no religious instruction is being imparted. Some Congressite elements have infiltrated into the College set up to prevent restoration of such missionary activity and the Principal has fallen in their trap or else there is no reason why divinity teachers can’t be appointed when they are available in plenty - at least in Amritsar. 
The only impression that the main college gives to its Sikh character is that the Principal insists that the Sikh boy to be admitted in, has to be a kesdhari one. Admission to clean- Sikhs is denied. To some extent it could be O.K but ideally the position should have been vice versa: Clean shaven are admitted and when they leave, they leave as dedicated and complete Sikhs. What is the use of admitting a Pagridhai when they resort to cap subsequently. They would not allow clean shaven is an admittance on their part that they can't convince or motivate because they themselves are hollow. 
The college has discarded its avowed aim of promotion of Punjabi language and as a policy does not admit such students who had received instruction through Punjabi language. Only such students who are from the Punjab School Education Board are admitted into college as toppers or have some recommendation support. Consequences of its policy are proving detrimental to the Punjabis. Now more and more students are going for CBSE/ICSE syllabi and similarly schools are opting for the ICSE/CBSE affiliations. We know the Punjab Board has comparatively more materials regarding Punjab; its history, culture etc. on its syllabi but Khalsa College is directly causing a harm to Punjabi culture and language by discouraging PSEB background students, what to talk of its aim of imparting religious instruction on Sikhism. 
Their love of Hindi culture is also evident from the fact case. That the Society has started a public school which they got affiliated with CBSE instead of PSEB. If English medium had been in their mind they would obviously had gone for ICSE [Old Senior Cambridge]. Also there are hardly any convent educated teachers. The management people have accommodated their unemployed nears and dears. Thus a school started by premier Sikh institute has failed to make any dent in its arena. 
It has become a convenient tool in the implementation of the Congress policy of discouragement and mutilation of Punjabi culture and Sikh religion. If its founders like Sir Sunder Singh Majithia should come alive and see the state of affairs they would all commit harakiri. 
However one will have to give credit to the principal and his dedicated team of professors for the fine results they are producing i.e. today the college sends a large contingent of students to various professional colleges. In 1996- 97 session 75 students joined medical and engineering colleges. Some people credit the present Principal as a strict disciplinarian who has compelled the adamant and erring teachers to be regular with their classes. Though some of professors are sore how a fine 'academician Prof. K.S.Hundal has been removed by the principal in an authoritative and insulting manner from the services due to mere clash of egos. 
Repairs & Renovations the crux of matter The most serious allegations against the Management unfortunately lie in the department of repairs and sale of lands. It is a sign of decay and decline of an institution. Had these been on the construction and purchase of land it would have meant that some developmental activity is on. Though the MC has a Building Committee headed by S. Nirmal Singh for collective decisions, but it hardly has any sittings though it is required to meet once a month at least. Thus the matters are decided by a single person. They have accordingly now made the committee dysfunctional as its members were creating a lot of hue and cry and thus causing inconvenience to the MC. It is being alleged that the Bldg. Secry. is all in all in the matter of investment to any extent pertaining to repairs aid construction. It is also being alleged that he plays the most prominent role in the matter of disposal of land by way of sales supported by the vice president S. Bhag Singh Ankhi. 
Sometimes back it was felt the century old magnificent building they call Heritage Building of Khalsa College urgently needed repairs and for this appeals were made. S.Parkash Singh Badal the Chief Minister gave a grant of Rs. 1 crore [50% received so for] for this purpose. The Sikhs got ready to repair it free of any charges like they do it to their gurudwaras. Services of one such group, which does a lot of construction of gurudwaras, Baba Labh Singh Kar Sewa wale was sought and the College, got it without any hitch. 
Grants otherwise received were from
 DC-Amritsar-Rs.50,000, 
P S Majitha Minister- 50000+1 lakh+50000+25000, 
Daya Singh Sodhi MP-s lakh, 
Baldev Raj Chawla Deputy Speaker-1 lakh,
 Raj Mohinder Singh Majitha-12 lakh, 
Balwinder Singh Bhundarh-1Olakh. 
More grants have since poured in apart from these. It is alleged that the MC has failed to produce accounts of these grants. 
The Kar Sewa [free repairs] continued for a considerable time length. According to a deputy of Baba conditions were made worse for the Baba as contractors who were otherwise to enjoy the fruits of construction felt deprived and they started creating hurdles for the Baba's men. When the condition became unbearable Baba left the Kar sewa .lt is being alleged that expelling the Baba was a decision of contractors. 
Since it was mostly free repairs and obviously the charges would have been less on the labour while material would have taken the lion's share in expenses. TPG objected to the ousting of free service and sought information on expenditure. They were startled when the Building Secretary lnformed them that on Heritage building expenditure is Rs.7.12 lakh on material and Rs. 11.82 on labour. According to them labour. charges should have been negligible. They thus suspect foul play. Vide a letter dated 15-3-99 TPG was informed that a sum of Rs. 73.35 lakh had so for been spent on repairs. 
They suspected another figure; namely Rs.11.38 lacs on the replacement of roofs  of 29 staff quarters. Their friends in the staff informed them that roofs of only 3 quarters have been repaired. TPG wants an enquiry here too. 
They are also suspecting foul play in the spreading of premix on the college roads, which meant an expenditure of about 6 lacs. They ,complain that patches could be seen on the road even after 15 days of repairs. 
TPG has written a letter to S. Raj Mohinder Singh Majitha [MP]-Vice president who is acting as President enlisting some more objections as under: - 
1.Why Kar Sewa men have been ousted. Who has appointed the present contractors? Was the necessary drill completed before their selection? 
Leave aside the consultation of Bldg. Comttee. on the matter of repairs and investment of huge amounts. Why expenditure details are not shown to the Committee members. 
When the old roofs were replaced, a large amount of materials uch as steel plates and timber were recovered. How was this material disposed off? 
S. Jaspal Singh Dhillon had made a serious allegation informing how a professor caught a contractors stealing the steel plates. Building Secretary and Hon. Secretary Have claimed that a fine has been recovered from the man. But no notice of the stolen timber is taken, why? 
[MCs version is that some drug edicts were caught and handed over to Police who confessed that they have stolen some steel plates but nothing was recovered from them. Later contractor made the loss good by depositing Rs 13000. TPG alleges that it is admittance on the part of MC that drug edicts too have free entry in the hostels. They further allege how and by whom the loss was estimated at Rs. 13000. It is also alleged that doors and windows of the timber were made in the college works and have been taken out by the contractors for their projects elsewhere. 
4. lt was the responsibility of the Building Secretary to have approval of the Bldg. Committee on the matters of estimated expenditure, time period, appointment of contractor, calling and opening of tenders. [Bldg. Secry has replied that he consults MC in all these matters) 
6. Building Secretary appoints his relatives as contractors and incurs expenditures of several lacs [Bldg. Secry. has denied the allegation and contended that the TPG should come up with an affidavit and if the charges are proved he will resign from the post) 
7. When the material for Kar Sewa is required then the Building Secretary Constitutes a purchase committee and when the material involving lacs of Rs. is required is for consumption of his contractors then whya Purchase Committee is ignored? 
8. A member of the Building Committee is demanding details from the Hon. Secretary and the Principal intervenes telling the member that he has no right to ask such details. [Bldg. Secry. Has denied the allegation and claimed that he does it all with the approval of MCI 
9. The Building Secretary on one hand says that an expenditure of lakhs is incurred on the replacement of hostel roofs and on the other hand he says that repair of these hostels is due. [MC have since clarified this point] 
Building Secretary Tells us that a big expenditure is incurred on the replacement of roofs of the farm house whereas we have got information that these roofs were replaced more than a year ago. 
10.When the budget for the next year is introduced in the GC the members make repeated pleas that the balance sheet of the passing year be also produced. Notwithstanding the expenditure/income balance sheet is not produced year after year. Then what is the use of presentation of budget in the GC? [MC has replied that these would be produced] 
11. Article 56 of the Society provides that the funds will be invested by the trustees to be appointed by the GC. May we know Who are our trustees and when appointed. 
12. Before the Hon. Secretary we are continuously pleading for more than a year that receipts of payment made by the parents towards fees/funds are not being issued by Senior Sec. School for boys. No attention is being paid towards this important issue. [allegation stands confirmed] 
Similarly claim forms for SC/ST scholarships are got filled in each year from the respective students but scholarships have not been paid to them even once and to this effect also there are complaints which again he not been probed into. 
ln reply to the above allegations of TP Group the management in GC meeting of Aug.30 circulated among al! the members an unsigned explanation without assigning the office of origin of the paper in which selected allegation have been replied which we have notwithstanding incorporated at appropriate places. That shows that perhaps the Hon. secretary also feels that there is justification in these charges or else he would have signed the statement. TPG alleges that they have information that Hon. Secry. refused to sign the statement while others had no courage to do it. 
 No woman no cry? As we see the Management is failing to produce the yearly statement; balance sheet. TP GROUP says the survival of the present management would be impossible once they publish the Balance Sheet. So why should they create the problem for them? 
ls property of the Khalsa safe? The TPG has made available for us balance sheet for the year 1995-96. It reveals all is not well on this account as well. 
According to it 12104 sq. yards of land was sold to a party [or a member of the GC? against which it Paid only Rs, 24 lac. No biana or legal document was signed with the party neither full payment obtained before giving possession. 
There are such several cases where the Management failed to realise the full amount. Safety of its large areas in Ranjit Avenue are also threatened. It is also being alleged that a politician has also encroached upon about two kanals of land right near the main gate. 
Some washer-men are also allegedly illegally occupying some College property 
Recently on July 26, there€ was auction of some land contiguous to the main college. TPG has again questioned the propriety of this disposal of land and allege that the contractors have unilaterally decided tb sell the land without the approval of President. 
It's old Khalsa students' union! man? The only old balance sheet available to these writers gives many interesting accounts. Some body in Chandigarh formed a union of the old Khalsas and approached the management. The liberal Management paid Rs.5805408 for the purchase of land while the land registry exists in the name of the old students association. The Khalsa are lion hearted? Are not they? While the TPG suspects a major amount of boforing in this drainage also. 
ls there any president who is accountable to Sikhs? ln Feb.1997 when the Akali Govt. of Mr. Prakash Singh Badal was being sworn in S. Parkash Singh Majitha who is not maintaining a good mental health and most of the time he is sleeping took oath and sat in the chair that was meant for the Governor. A few months later Mr. Badal withdrew the department from S.Majitha making him minister without portfolio. 
Majitha tlue to reasons of health resigned from the Presidentship of MC's post of the Khalsa Society. 
Accordingly the GC meeting was convened for election for the vacancy created. S. Raj Mohinder Singh Majitha's candidature was announced. Raj Mohinder was a candidate of the present management. In the meanwhile some GC members persuaded Mr. Satyajit Singh the grandson of legendary Sir Sunder Singh Majithia to be a candidate. 
Mr. Satyajit a religious and honest man who owns a chain of industries in UP and even aircraft, was obviously an ideal candidate. When the management felt a clear tilting of scale it sent an SOS and approached Mr. Badal who is the Chancellor of the Society, that elections be somehow deferred. Badal never wanted that his relatives and political allies should fight among themselves and agreed and advised the Rector to postpone the election. 
The management did not rest here. They approached the family of S. Parkash Singh Maiitha and persuaded them to see that Mr. Majitha withdrew his resignation. Signatures of the ailing PS Majitha were accordingly obtained and resignation stood withdrawn. TPG is legitimately questioning as to how a resignation could be withdrawn when it was accepted. 
Any way today the management is under the informal control of Mr. Raj Mohinder Singh while Mr. PS Majitha is sleeping. It is alleged that he otherwise was also not very cautious and heavily relied upon S.Nirmal and S.Ankhi. In any case the legal liabilities perhaps fall on the shoulders of Mr. PS Majitha himself. We can only pray for his health. 
The Constitution provides one Vice President while actually there are three. 
One VP is also holding the office of Hon. Secretary and he is at the helm of affairs in the management. 
Constitution provides that the members of the GC have to be Amritdhari Sikhs. Actually there are very few members who have taken Amrit. 
Hitting below the belt? O.K. But should our educatianal and religious heads have no moral character? Tuming Gold into Brass and vice verca. That X, Y and Z were three corrupt employees of SGPC and Akali Dal. Devotees often present gold ornaments at Golden Temple and elsewhere in its premises. X, Y and Z replaced these ornaments with those moulded from brass and enriched themselves. Now Z has gone mad and can be seen roaming about the Temple premises while X and Y hold very important posts in Khalsa Society and one more premier educational society. 
SHORT CUT WAY TO SUCCESS The triumvirate then in their twenties learnt the golden formula that every leader or VIP has a strong lust for the second W and it is said they used to provide these services even from their residences. We feel ashamed to write that it is rumoured that even the orphanage minor children were also abused to please their political bosses.
 Betrayal of an old love link 
Y had elicit relations with the daughter of a Granthi of Khalsa College Gurdwara. 
She is settled in the States for long now. As it is known love knows no boundaries and distances, its pursuance continued crossing the seven seas. Thanks to the missionary funds of Chief Khalsa Diwan. Some times back Y was to undertake his missionary sojourn to those distant lands and his family got panicky. They apprehended that Y might not return from the States. "No, you have no reason for anxiety," Y pacified the agitated family taking them into confidence for his 'missionary' tour. Y was in fact getting restless that despite his links he could not settle his son who remained unemployed and was getting over aged. 
Y's fertile mind had had thus an idea. Since he is holding an extremely important post in yet another Sikh institution of Amritsar. He submitted a proposal to the management 'that the American Sikhs are disillusioned on many issues and there is a need to preach to them some of the Sikh concepts. A devoted and enlightened Sikh needs to visit US for this noble mission work". Proposal is accepted and Y himself is asked to proceed to US with a large purse drawn from the lnstitution's funds. Y flies to his beloved and stays with her and pleads her that his son was still unemployed for which she should do something. 
She adopts Y's son and the adopted son flies to US. All papers ready and the son comfortably joins some job there. 
In the meanwhile the consort asks Y to dispose off her Chandigarh plot and is aware of the pretty amount she would get. A power ' of attorney is sent in the name of Y. Y grab the heavens sent opportunity and promptly sells the plot at a premium price. As it often happens the parties declare less amount of transaction at the deal to save on taxes and so happened in this deal as well. A rogue is a rogue what ever be the case. Y conveyed to his beloved that the plot was sold for Rs. 98,000 only. While actually it was sold at Rs. 7 lac. Y dispatched the copy of registry he has signed as an evidence claiming that the prices of real estate had fallen on that weak. The woman in the meanwhile got another US Sikh in her love net. On learning the plot deal she got infuriated. She immediately retaliated and wrote to the US authorities that she disowned the son she had adopted. The authorities immediately deported Y's son back to lndia. The woman has since filed a writ in the Punjab and Haryana High court . But links and positions monies do always matter. Y gave deposits of lacs of Rupees to 
Punjab Bank and arranged the job of his son in the bank. But the banks have seldom loose administration as we have with the Sikh institutions. The son found the job not very productive and profitable. How long could the father feed? The son of the father resigned from his job and is taking lessons of 'constructional honesty' from his father. 
Member of MC but not of university senate- No. it is humiliating. Y had tried to become the member of Guru Nanak Dev University senate but could not succeed. Y is holding a very very important position in another Sikh educational and orphanage institution which often applies for meagre amounts of aids and grants from the university. But Y's ego is only satisfied if he becomes a member of the University. Where there is a will there is a way. Y withdrew Rs. 5 lakh from the Sikh institution and deposits with the University and becomes the member. But Y is yet to offer his expert advise to the Senate and move it with some 'practical' suggestions to introduce some 'practical lessons' for the miraculous rise in career. 
It is O.K but they expect their women to be faithful 
Parlok Chand is a reliable construction worker who kept X his employer pleased. X was more than satisfied when he learnt that Parlok has Santokh Kuppal a second wife many years his junior. X met Santokh and found her vulnerable. Parlok was immediately made a contractor and a firm founded with Kuppal. It proved to be an enduring partnership. But the Bumbsdon Club people can't forget an incidence. Kuppal is a signatory to withdraw the amounts from bank though the cheque book is kept by X under lock and key. One day when X was busy with some more potent proposal and needed money he handed over the keys to kuppal advising her to withdraw certain amount. Later X found that Kuppal had withdrawn amounts exceeding the limit allowed by X and taken money for her self. But kuppal gave explanation when X was in some playful mood. He exonerated her. A few days later X came to know that Kuppal had not only withdrawn the amount in excess she had rather been decamping with a boy. X's grief was limitless. X is very fond of gambling. He straightaway went to his club, lost a huge amount in the game and started pouring pegs after pegs of whiskey down his 'throat until he became senseless and started sobbing. His partners consoled him saying it happens in the game. "No that is not the point ," he said, ' it is thankless people he regretted 'over and Kuppal was one." Sobbing under his heavy drinks he shouted "You unfaithful Kuppal" many a times, created scenes to the immense amusement of other members and club employees until the club employees made a phone call to his residence that he be shifted. So at the dead of night X's family members also learnt how their dad in his sixties was stung by a 'love bug'. One can imagine the position of family of X. Naturally 


REJOINDERS

The article has come to me as a rude shock. Let me make it clear that Khalsa College Amritsar, the premier institution of Northern lndia has a distinct entity and by no stretch of imagination, it can be deemed synonymous with the management. ln the beginning of the article you have traced the history of the establishment of the College and eulogized it as a land-mark in the educational renaissance of the Punjab and the Sikhs. But while indicating you did not realize that the very title of your article is bound to denigrate this august educational institution. Being the Principal of this college, it is my bounden duty to protest against this act of degeneracy on your part while choosing the caption of the article. A casual reader would immediately jump to the conclusion as if there are grave acts of omission and commission in the administration of the college itself. Khalsa College Amritsar can not be bracketed with the management as it has its own image and distinct existence. 
lf at all you wanted to highlight certain alleged deeds of some of the office bearers of Managing Committee, you should have been discreet enough to give an appropriate title to your article which you have published right on the title page of your magazine. You have blown hot and cold in the same breath. 
Prof. Kanwaljit Singh Hundal was appointed as the Head of the Food Tedrnology Deptt. by my predecessor Dr. H,S. Soch. He went to Australia and  overstayed the period of Leave without Pay. As Principal of this great institution  it is my sacred duty to see if a teacher is competent enough to deliver the goods to the students and thus there was no egoistic tendency on my part to post him back in the Agriculture Faculty. 
Your article mentions that the services of Prof. K.S. Hundal have been dispensed with which is absolutely wrong and baseless. He is still working in the Faculty of Agriculture as he used to do before being appointed in the Food Technology Deptt. 
I am also surprised at the half baked and distorted information published by you in the said issue. S. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab announced a grant of Rs.5.00 Crores payable in ten installments of Rs.50 lacs each but you have reduced it to Rs.1 .00 Crore. Similarly the-figures given by you regarding the money donated by certain members of the parliament is also factually wrong. 
You have posed to be champion of your mother-tongue Punjabi and has pointed out that due importance is not being given for the growth and development of our mother tongue. The arguments advanced by you are that the students belonging to ICSE and CBSE boards are given preference for admission to the 10+1 & 10+2 (Medical), Non-Medical & Commerce streams and the students of the Punjab Sc. Ed. Board are not admitted in those classes. This again is a fallacy nursed and propagated by you. May I point out that due importance is being given to the teaching of Punjabi even to those students who according to you belong to ICSE and CBSE boards, as Punjabi is a compulsory subject in +1 & +2 classes. Only those students who belong to the other states are given the option of Punjab History and Culture.
 lt is in the interest of Punjab that doctors, engineers and technocrats are produced and that is the objective for which I am making my humble endeavours.

 I congratulate you for this issue. You have exposed Mr. X and Y of Khalsa College this gang used to manipulate bogus voting at the time of election to managing committee. There is a talk in the newspapers also.
ln the SGPC offices earlier there used to be photos of Jathedar Tohra now the walls are occupied by Bibi Jagir Kaur's photographs. Some members of SGPC are drunkards and corrupt. Some of them have illegally occupied SGPC lands.

They r working in a tough system with tight enimical RSS Hindutava and a host of secret agencies scanners observing them. However, if I hate any body it is the overseas Sikh leaders who have no vision at all. U will find them always criticizing Sikh leadership and denigrating Sikhism or dividing Sikhs. I pity them when I see most of their actions r directly by Indian agencies. The r the real stupid lot. I call upon the Gursikhs to oust them from their institutions. Please transfer the control of Gurdwaras in the hand of believer ladies our Gursikhnis.
 ਦਾਸਰਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੀਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਓਹ ਬਾਦਲ ਹੋਣ, ਕੈਪਟਨ ਭਾਵੇ ਬਾਜਵਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਅਜੈਂਸੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਰ ਐਸ ਐਸ ਦੀ ਸਖਤ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਤੇ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਤਹਿਤ ਵਿਚਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਗਿਲਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸਾਂ ‘ਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੀਡਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਹੈ ਅਸਲੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਹੀਣ ਮੂਰਖ ਢਾਣੀ। ਤੁਸੀ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਇਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਦੇਖੋ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੀਡਰਾਂ, ਆਪਣੀ ਕੌਮ, ਆਪਣਾ ਧਰਮ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਨਾਮ ਕਰਨ ‘ਚ ਲਗੇ ਰਹਿਦੇ ਨੇ।ਮੈਂ ਨੋਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਇਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਕਾਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਟੇਰਿੰਗ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਅਜੈਸੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਊ ਨਾਸਤਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣੋ ਤੇ ਇਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਖਾੜ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢੋ। ਮੇਰੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਵਾਨ ਨਿਤਨੇਮੀ ਬੀਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ। ਇਹ ਨਹੀ ਵਿਕਦੀਆਂ।


1.    While the Sikhs are in crises they are the people who promoted dissensions against Dasam Granth and created confusion.
2.    The are the people who created and promoted Gurbakash Singh Kala Afghana who denigrated Sikhism.
3.    They supported moves to rebel against Sikh centre the Akal Takhat
4.    They created  people like Sarabjit Singh Dhunda
5.    They sometimes support Sikh rebels like Darshan Singh Ragi
6.    Recently they came in support of Kahan Singh Pannu who used disrespectful language against Guru Sahib. They did it despite Pannu had apologized.
7.    They have never highlighted the Sikh massacre of Chittisinghpora which it is suspected was done by Indian Army’s mad officers.


These r a few of athe examples. I will further elaborate this issue. In  the meanwhile u may give ur views here under in the box.

 THE MELANCHOLIC MELODY LIVES ON -K.L.SEHGAL
  His name is synonymous with rhythmic, light classical film songs of 1930s and 40s In fact the moment one mentions 'Saigal', songs like ‘Ek bangla bane nyara' echo in one's heart. A singer with music in his veins and honey on his tongue. Kundan Lal Saigal literally sang his way into this world. Singing was such a passion with him that he drank himself to death just 'to sing and act better'. Using merely a harmonium and a pair of cymbals Saigal could produce the most scintillating melodies.
Saigal's popularity is it self a proof that masses of the time had an ear for quality music. All his songs and films were big hits. His knowledge of music and 'hauntingly melodious' voice even attracted the likes of Rabindranath Tagore to comment that 'his melody is not only correct but he perfectly  meaning'. AMRIK SINGH BARHOK had met Saigal on two occasions and profiles on this celebrated singer of yesteryears whose songs still stir many souls. 
On Jan. 18,1947a legend parted company with the mortal souls only to become immortal in the heart of millions of his fans. Kundan Lal Saigal had finally left for 'Nayeehar' leaving indelible impressions behind. Born on April 4, 1904 at Jammu to Amar Chand and Kesar Kaur, in a middle class family from Jalandhar Saigal was a natural artist. After his schooling Saigal moved to Lahore where he found himself a modest job with a company, at a meagre monthly salary of 50 rupees. He, however, was not satisfied and accepted the job to keep the wolf from the  door.'  Music was in Saigal's veins. Furthermore, he had a profound sense of humour, and was easy to get along with, though some say he tended to be moody. But no one denies that he was a happy go lucky fellow.
 It was in 1931-32 that Saigal was spotted reciting one of his most favourite songs  "Jhulana Jhulayen...." at a small, private gathering. His discoverer was Mr. Wali, who had by then made name for story and dialogue writing. He had also directed two or three films Wali liked Saigal's enchanting voice, and his flawless diction of Urdu words. A few days later, Wali invited Saigal to his studio and asked him if he was interested in films or in singing. Saigal's answer, predictably, was yes Hardly a fortnight had elapsed when Wali again set for Saigal. One of the New Theatres big bosses was in Lahore and was staying with Wali as his guest. Wali, it may be mentioned, married Mumtaz Shanti the heroine of a Punjabi film, "Sohni Kumharan", which broke all previous records in the country. The record was  only nearly matched, two years later, by a Hindi film 'Kismet' made by Bombay Talkies. His films interestingly, also featured Mumtaz Shanti in the lead role. Wali and Saigal sang the same song ('Jhulana Jhulayen') for the benefit of the New Theatre functionary.' The visitor from Calcutta was greatly impressed. The following day, a contract was signed between the singer and the company. It was for a period of five years, in the first instance. The salary, however, was very meagre.
The end of 1932 saw the release of Saigal's first film with New Theatres. It was titled "Mohabbat Ke Aansu" (The Tears of Love) and was directed by P. Ttorihy (?). Two years later, in 1934, 'Chandidas' was released. It was directed by Nitin Bose. "Devdas" directed by P C. Barua came in 1935. The film featured Jamuna {who had been discovered by Barua himself). She was cast in the role of "Paro". the heroine of the movie. This film caused one of the biggest stirs in the history of Indian Cinema. It became a super hit. The impact was so great that both Jamuna and Saigal became synonymous with 'Paro' and 'Devdas', respectively. The film ends on a tragic note. Saigal drinks himself to death following the heroine's refusal or inability to reciprocate his amorous advances. Two of this film's songs, "Balam aye baso mere man mein ..." and "Dukh ke din ab bitat nahin" became all time hits. Both Jamuna and Saigal had been catapulted into the dizzy heights of superstardom. The film director, P.C. Barua Iater married the actress.
Although Saigal had almost permanently settled down in Calcutta ,he never thought of severing his umbilical cord with Punjab. At least once every year he would visit Punjab to meet his relatives in Jalandhar and his fans and admirers in Lahore. Lahore, then, had acquired the reputation of being the touchstone of lndian films because of the enthusiastic reception of the good films.
 Anywhere else in those days, play back singing was not heard of. Understandably, actors who could sing beautifully were preferred. New Theatres had three of the most popular singers  Pahari Sanyal, KC. Dey (father of the celebrated singer. Manna Dey), and Saigal himself. K C DeY was called the "Blind Singer" because of the blindness in both his eyes Singing was considered very important for films. Romances were popular even then but mostly good, clean films were produced.
 Saigal had PlaYed in almost all kinds of films  romantic, social, musical, mythological, religious, and historical. And in almost all films, he played the title role. For instance, in 'Chandidas' he played Chandidas. In 'Devdas' he played Devdas, ln 'Tansen' he plaYed Tansen, and in 'shahjehan' he played Shahjehan. None of his films flopped. As a matter of fact, Saigal's presence in a film was an insurance against possible failure. In 'Tansen' Saigal was paired with one of the leading actresses of the day  Khurshid Begum. She was the film's heroine. Her song "Pahle jo mohabbat se inkar kiya hota……". became an instant hit. Its haunting tune was hummed by lovers of music for years to follow. Saigal himself gave several songs  all hits.
Saigal's 'shahjehan' was both a historlcal as well as musical. The film had some of the finest songs Those which are heard very often on the 'All lndia Radio', include. "Chaah barbad kare gi, humen maisom na tha", "Sham dive mustaggil, 'kitna nazuk hai dil", "Toot gaye sab sapne mere", and "ab ji kar kya karen ge, jab dil hi toot gaya". "shahjehan" was Saigal's last film.
Saigal played a wide range of roles in a variety of films. He tried two or three comedies  President' and 'Karorpati', but it was in the tragic roles that the actor excelled. Indeed, he Was 'tragedy', personified. Saigal must be given credit for introducing 'society' girls to the screen, although Pune's "Prabhat Film Company" had also, about the same time introduced quite a number of talented girls from affluent families.  Nalini Tarkhud and Shanta Apte, to mention just two of them In "President" he was paired with two new heroines  both from rich and sophisticated families. They were Leela Desai and Kamlesh Kumari. In the movie both the girls are sisters and are in love with the hero (Saigal). One of the film's songs "lk bangla baney nyara" is still as fresh and popular as it was half a century ago. 
The 'New Theatres' were known for quality and not quantity. They made just one film a year, on an average. Saigal faith fully stood by the company until he himself called a day. Saigal did not last long on the film scene. But, as long as he was on the screen, he shone like the 'Pole Star' dominating the cine scene. His supremacy was not challenged until he himself chose to withdraw from the field In about fifteen year period of this star in the industry, Saigal appeared in about a dozen and half films. Other films in which Saigal appeared include "street Singer", "Dushman", "Meri Bahen", and "KarwaneHayat" (The Cara van of Life) In this film, Saigal is a member of a nomadic tribe which is perpetually on the move travelling by day; and halting by a suitable site by night. This film had one of Saigal's most enchanting songs, "Hazrate nazara aakhir ban gayee rehnaivan" It was a tragic song, sung in a group, The carefree and happy go lucky members of the party, including two young girls sing and dance in amazing abandon and uninhibitedness.

A special feature of Saigal's singing was that he needed only a harmonium and a pair of cymbals to produce the most scintillating melodies In fact, there were no Laxmi kant PYare lals or Shankar Jai kishans at that time. Nor were elaborate orchestras used.
I had the opportunity and privilege of meeting the superstar twice in the forties. The first time we met was at a public reception held to welcome at the vast ground near 'Gurdwara Dera Sahib' and the Red Fort (Lahore). The sec ond time we met was at a common friend's house (also at Lahore). I asked the actor, why he drank excessively if not horribly, he replied: "To sing and act better." "Drinking does not detract from the quality of my singing or acting," he quipped. "On the contrary," he added, "it helps to get the best out of me." ln support of this contention, he cited the case of his musical, street singer, which turned Kanan Bala, a   very gifted actress and songstress of all times. I would have to compete with Kanan, who is a reputed singer. It posed a challenge for me I, therefore, drank heavily before each of my song was filmed or recorded," the actor confided. This reminds me of the famous lines of Winston Churchill, who once declared: "l have taken more out of drinking than it has taken out of me."
Among Saigal's religious films, the more notable were "Puran Bhagat" and "Surdas". Saigal is also remembered as a trendsetter, in that with his emergence as a singer performer, the popularity of stunt films began to decline, giving way to soft, sentimental and emotional types of films. Although Saigal's singing repertoire was amazingly wide and varied, ghazal was his 'forte' In most of his films, he played a' disappointed, rejected, or jilted lover, or a victim of unacknowledged love. Understandably' the songs or ghazals he sang had a touch of agony and pathos. Was he a victim of unrequitted love in real life too? Many are convinced he was. We all know he drank himself to death. Saigal is no more with us, but his memory always is. His tragic songs have immortalised him, just as he has immortalised the' New Theatres' (the company he worked for, lived for, and died for).

Our unique ancient science is yet to be recognized by the world . What the scientists are doing today we did it 5,000 years ago.  We had pushap vimanas what the world has today in the form of jet airplanes. Because we are different people and different from the rest. The West has stolen our ancient books and they are getting ideas from those. Look what u can do without digit zero (0) invented by ancient Indian mathematicians.
It is surely the indifferent and discriminatory attitude of the Olympic Committee that they deliberately ignore the events where we excel: of laziness, dishonesty, corruption, casteism, communal violence, genocide of minorities, and caste wars. Sad no notice of us is being taken of or acknowledged or accepted as an event. To encourage Olympics what have we not done? Did we not give give  P.T Usha, Milkha Singh etc. the honours of winners of Olympic Gold medals while they had missed even the bronze. Discrimination….
Thank God now at last the world has come to realize our leg power. It is not just a days of pursuit though It took us years. We are proud of our Sushmita Sen, Aishvarya , Diana Hayden, Lara Duttas and are destined to produce many such Beauty  Queens. Can any country match our effort on this event: our  competitions namely Miss Street, Miss City, Miss State, Miss lndia and then with heads held high we throw challenge at Miss World and then Miss Universe contests. Our future competitions will be Miss Cosmos and Miss Galaxy and Miss lnfinite and so  on.
We, as you know produce biggest number of films in the world and none would be complete if some 'Prem Kahani' or Love story is not depicted. What ever the action our brave lndians out-rightly reject any show which  does not have some sex appeal in it.
We hate such cultures which promote work culture. Stupid isn’t it ‘Work is Worship'?  If we have got a little amount of money we need not work at all. We get , those 'very active' servants from Bihar, Orissa etc. who would work just for , Rs. 500 or 1000 a month : we have a culture in which one man works and feeds' ten mouths'. It is a matter of pride that about 90% of our girls are busy in , nail growing mission. Their families take pride in it and would help them grow then to ‘some  honourable  length’. What more discriminatory treatment of the Olympics could be that they have not added or acknowledged it as an Olympic event.
We are proud of our Bathinda district of the Punjab where the liquor consumption is more than the consumption of many countries put together. Even the consumption is more than that of the whole of UP state. Should there be any fall in the liquor consumption, it adversely affects on the Govts and Govt might fall. ls not our economy unique ?
On the front of illiteracy, we are number one. Why should we produce more educated people as they start demanding one thing after other. Who will give them jobs? Ours is a  closed door economy. Why should we open our doors to the world? Interaction with the world and our whole unique character is lost. Interaction with the world and we are in danger ‘desh ki akhandta ko khatra ho jata’.We don't want any inroads into our unique culture. Our caste culture is well founded and don't you know even our 'Father of Nation’ (Mahatma Gandhi) used to take pride in it and would justify casteism. Doesn’t our intellectuals defend it every now and then? We are proud of our heritage.  Mera Bharat mahan.

CENTRAL OFFICES IN PUNJAB ARE VIOLATING LANGUAGE POLICY OF GOVT


To keep the Punjabis divided the Govt of India took a leaf from British colonial administration. Since Arya Samaj had opposed Punjabi even in pre-Independence days the Govt considered to keep them divided on language issue. Though Punjabi speaking Punjab was carved out by diving the state in 1966 the Punjabi language still remains deprived of its due place in its home state. Communalism promoted by divisive policies of the Govt  gave rise to a secret  anti-Punjabi campaign depriving this language of the masses of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs became one of the most deprived, ignored and disowned languages of the world.
The saddest part of the story is that whatever provisions are available  for the  regional languages of the respective states or the Constitutional provisions or governmental orders, even these are also not being implemented in the state of the Punjab.
CENTRAL GOVERNMENT PUBLICITY (LANGUAGE) POLICY
The ministry of Home affairs has a well defined language policy as to give publicity through a particular language and for maintaining public relations. According to these provisions while carrying out the publicity, the government agencies “Will give preference to the regional language  followed by the State language i e. Hindi and then English.”
Now mark whether Punjabi is being given any place in Central Govt offices in Punjab? What to talk of giving the first place the language is more often than not completely ignored. Thus in reality however exactly the opposite to the Govt policy is happening. For example the sign boards at various places and outside government offices giving information are almost always in English or in Hindi. In most cases none exists in  the Punjabi language at all.
The only place of the Govt of India where Punjabi has been given place is the railway stations where surely the station boards are  definitely in Punjabi but other than that there is no place for this language. However if you enter the offices at the railway  stations  then again Punjabi missing: no where on the name plates of the officers or sections. The language is also conspicuous by its absence at various counters giving directions about the train or ticket bookings.
 A similar step-motherly treatment is given to the language of the Punjabi masses the announcement as to arrival or departure of the trains are seldom given in Punjabi. At some stations recorded announcement do give but the instant announcements are as a rule in Hindi. This is highly surprising since almost all other states use their regional language to impart such information.
Similarly the sign boards of the Army and the Air Force establishments in the Punjab do not give any place to Punjabi neither do  BSF, CRPF and  ITBP do for that matter.
The same is the case with  the Revenue offices like the lncome Tax and the Central Excise and Customs. No sign board in the Punjabi language exists there nor any stationary, forms etc  meant for, public usage are printed in Punjabi.
 Unfortunately the Labour Ministry  in the state too ignores the language and their respective departments do not have forms in Punjabi language although most of the applicants who come to them are conversant only with Punjabi and have no knowledge of either English or Hindi. This makes communication very difficult and leads to corruption and harassment thus the middlemen are born who liaison with office and the individual  as in the case ESI and Provident fund etc.  the Central  Labour Commissioner's Office.
The telephone offices now of course run recorded computer tapes sometimes while attending customer calls. Thus it shows where monetary aspects are concerned the trading Govt office can give place to Punjabi language. But the offices take no notice of the Govt instructions on language policy.
The telephones never thought of bringing out directories  in Punjabi, the way they exist in other states. The offices of the telecommunication department in the state too have no sign boards in Punjabi or, for that matter, neither has the post and telegraph department. The same is true of the Ministry of External Affairs offices in the Punjab which also neglects the language. An example is the passport application form which is either in English or in Hindi.
 DOORDARSHAN AND FILMS
Jalandhar Doordarshan’s Punjabi programmes are a worst. Half hearted attempts  of producing   programmes in Punjabi language create a havoc rendering either the programme a mess. Most of their anchors and compares come from  Hindi school background who speak Punjabi with Hindi accent. Mostly it re-casts programmes produced by other centres of Doordarshan thus promoting Hindi language among our village folks. As far as language aspect is concerned the news casting is satisfactory plus the Punjabi literary programmes.
A similar complaint, can  be registered against the Punjabi film industry also. The pathetic condition of the Punjabi films makes  one shameful.  Copy cat stories of themes of Hindi films with poor and overstressed dialogues. One wonders while the Punjabi heroes can dominate the Bollywood  how come their home movies are miserable? Surely incapable producers and directors. Also the  Sikhs feel , that their image is more often than not tarnished in these movies since the roles have Sikh names  but the actors are usually clean-shaven. Language wise  also the performance is miserable.
HOPELESS DAVP
  The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity under the Ministry of information and Broadcasting is doing no good either. One feels it has translators from Delhi who know very little of Punjabi and often transliterate rather than translating into Punjabi.
 Only one or two advertisements are released to Punjabi news papers which is more in the nature of helping or winning  the newspapers than any genuine effort of sincere publicity. Most of the advertisements of the respective departments and ministries are released to the papers without translation and are therefore carried by the news papers in verbatim i.e. in English or in Hindi.
For example all  advertisements from the UPSC are carried by the Punjabi news papers in Hindi or in English. This is highly surprising since DAVP does have an army of translators and writers.
 In any case the DAVP ads in Doordarshan are often laughed at. Advertisements related to Family planning are a real mess since the actors  seem to be very uncomfortable in speaking Punjabi language. May be DAVP does not know dubbing. Almost always their  Hindi accent especially some Punjabi sounds seem foreign  to them like ghar (house) bhara (brother) etc.
PUNJABI PAPERS
 It is unfortunate that the language we advocate is not even written properly by those who, wish to keep its banner high i.e, the regional newspapers.  Language of the Punjabi news papers is often loaded with Sanskritised Hindi words as in vogue with Hindi papers. Daily Ajit does seem to be a bit cautious in this regard but going through Punjabi editions of the Tribune and Puniab Kesri it is often felt as if one  is reading Hindi through Gurmukhi script. . The  Centrat Goverurment' s advertisement policy to goes in the interest of Hindi or English papers. For: example a hoard of advertisements were released to Punjab Kesri while Ajit was deprived of them. The field reporters are often impressed by the TV news. They often tend to use the Hindi terms in their dispatches. It is the sub-editors job to check the language. We often see un-digestible Hindi words appearing in Punjabi newspapers. In matters of circulation it is the funds that carry weight and obviously the Punjabi news papers are fighting a losing battle against the Hindi papers.
SCHOOLS
 The position of the Punjabi language is miserable in the schools even in the state itself. Although the most spoken language, rather the language of every household in the state, it has failed to enjoy any status as the other regional languages do in their respective regions. In every other state study of the regional language is compulsory while in the Punjab this is not so. There the medium of instruction is also the regional language. The same rules are applicable to the Punjab as well but here giving in to the pressure of the DAV ideology, Hindi has emerged as the favourite medium of instruction besides English which is more prevalent among the states. Since past four five decades the governmnent is relaxing this  rule on a year to year basis and is evading implementation of the regional language. Besides Punjab Govt is very liberal in allowing permissions to schools to get them affiliated to central boards like the CBSE and ICSE. The result being Punjab has emerged the first state where largest percentage of schools have been affiliated to central boards. Virtually Punjab has become a bilinqual state and no  politician has enough courage to come to the rescue of Puniabi language. The result is that Hindi has become the spoken language of the school going children. In fact the schools  consider it below dignity to converse in their mother tongue Punjabi.
In DAV schools etc. the conversation is as a rule in Hindi. ln junior classes of the colleges the study of Punjabi as a subject is also being avoided. The students have option to study Punjabi culture as a subject against the study of Punjabi as a subject. Thus many go on to study the Punjabi culture in English rather than Study the language itself. In the end it can be remarked that Punjabis go to some other region, learn the language of that area but hesitate to speak their own language In contrast the migrant labourers from UP and the Hindi belt in Punjab maintain their Hindi instead of learning the local Punjabi. With time their numbers are increasing. This too is playing a role in making Punjabi a secondary language in its homeland as the Punjabi villager is seen conversing in Hindi with these migrants, though with difficulty, while the migrant workers make no effort to learn and speak Puniabi. As a result it can be envisaged that the third generation from today will be at home in Hindi even in the Punjabi heartland further pushing their own mother tongue to periphery.
