A JOURNEY INTO FUTURE

If you travel in a vehicle (train, aircraft or rocket) with the speed of light you will encircle earth 7 times in a second. Supposing you commence journey and remain revolving around earth for a week and when you land back on earth you will hardly find any of your living relatives on earth because by that time the earth people have experienced one full century ( 100 years)

BLUE IS THE SIKH COLOUR; NOT SAFFRON

 

Today some one posted  a magnificent poem on turban. But alas! the poet was not aware that ‘saffron’ is not a Sikh colour. Blue and yellow have been Sikh colours but the 10th Lord approved blue colour for Sikh worrier’s uniform and flag. Brahmin scriptures consider blue as the colour of Shudra the depressed ones. Similarly ‘iron ‘ has been considered the metal of shudra. Thus Guru wishes that his Sikhs identify themselves with the low i.e humility. Friends will be surprised to read that in 1932 the Akal Dal passed a resolution opposing kesri the saffron colour. (see 50 year history of SGPC) See the irony: the Akali Dal has changed the colour of Sikh standards in Gurdwaras to saffron to please their Brahmin master. This was done by Govt in connivance of Jathedar Tohra. Even according to code conduct (Rehatmaryada) of SGPC the Nishan sahib has to be either dark blue or yellow. Saffron is the colour of Hindu hermits who believe in renunciation though originally it is Buddhist colour. The Hindu historians are yet to accept saffron and rue at the decision of ignorant Hindu politicians. Brahmins favourite colour is white. So please keep in mind for future the Sikh colour is ‘Blue’ (yes Neele wala) and basanti the yellow (saron the mustard flower).

WHO IS UNCIVILISED - THEY OR  WE?

 

Always smile on their faces, No worries no tensions. They don’t suffer heart attack neither sugar. They enjoy full sleep. There is no pollution where they live. They are not homeless. Will you believe there are no cases of rapes. The courts there don’t take years to announce judgements. There are no jails. There is no rich no poor. They haven’t manufacturered bombs to massacre humanity. I can’t understand why we still call them primitive society, uncivilized?

Gurbani has treated these so called primitive groups as the ones living in Satjug i.e age of truth. There are few ills in this society. Degree of falsehood is minimum.
So they are the people who are living in Satyug.

CAN A COMMUNIST EXPLAIN?

A part of my life (1975 -1984) was wasted as a communist atheist. I was in Delhi or in MP. Throughout the day we would condemn God. When ever we would refer to a believer friend we would say, ‘the ghost of God is yet to be expelled from him.’ Whenever a larger group would arrive from Punjab we would seek free kitchen (langar) of Gurdwara Sis Ganj or Bangla Sahib. Often comrades would go to Mata Sundri Gurdwara from Ajay Bhawan. When the daughter of our leader was to be admitted in a college we again sought an institute run by a gurdwara. Once a colleague asked the leader, “Comrade is the gurdwara not a kind of commune when the ownership is common?” Comrade could not give a satisfactory reply. But today I have an answer. Indian communist has only caused destruction. I am yet to come across any example of development for society. I am yet to see any langar run by communists. Can any comrade tell us if the party has raised any educational institution, a factory for production? No comrade you can’t quote. Comrades contribution is towards destruction. Oh my comrade brother let us now spare Punjab. Let us spare its educational institutions at least. Industry you have already finished. It is enough now..please..

ONLY BADAL CAN KEEP THE MURDEROUS CONGRESS OUT OF PUNJAB

Some central Govt touts are asking me to write against Badal. I say though I don't treat Badal as an ideal ruler but I am happy he keeps the murderous Congress at bay. Indian National Congress: the one who is opposed to Punjab province and especially the Sikhs
1.    The Congress whose Govt ordered mass murder of Sikhs in Delhi in 1984
2.    The Congress which hatched conspiracies to finish Punjab from all sides and then implemented those policies.
3.    It attempted (unsuccessfully) in 1947 to persuade some Congress Sikh leaders to have hair cut publicly and declare that Sikhs the sword arm of Hindus is no longer needed as the Hinduism is now free.
4.    The Congress which refused to accept the legitimate demand of Sikhs of language based province for 18 years and ultimately when it conceded it gave a Sikh province instead of Punjabi province. Communalism is in the heart of Congress.
5.    The Congress which ignored the international principle on sharing of river waters i.e Riparian right and awarded water of Punjab rivers to non-reparian provinces. ( not for drinking purposes but for unproductive purposes)
6.    The Congress who is opposed to Punjabi language who saw that Punjabi is not implemented in Punjab and endeavoured to make Punjab a two-language state.
7.    The Congress who conspired to plan absorption of Sikhs in Hindu mainstream and thus raised hundreds of centres called Sant Deras. The Congress who can shield the dera sants to any extent. May be the Sant might have committed about half a dozen murders and raped and raping about half a century of innocent girls.
8.    The Congress which never tolerated any non-Congress Govt in Punjab and would illegally impose President’s rule when ever it was out of power in Punjab.
9.    The one which saw that industry of Punjab is completely annihilated and shifted to neighbouring states.
10.    The one which ordered extra-judicial killing of  about one lakh Sikh youth in police custody.
11.     Which invaded Axis of Sikhism i.e the Mecca of Sikhs the Harmander Sahib (Golden Temple) and demolished Akal Takhat.
12.    The one who treats Punjab as a colony and is exploiting it. It returns only 0.65% of the revenue it collects from Punjab.
13.    Which prevents the Sikhs to visit their holy places in Pakistan. So much so the Pakistan Govt has agreed to grant a passport/visa free pilgrimage  of Sikhs to Gurdwara Kartarpur sahib which is only 4 km from border and for which the Punjab (India) Legislative Assembly has also passed a resolution yet the Congress Govt is not allowing the Sikhs to cross the border and visit their holiest of holy shrine where Guru Nanak passed away.
14.    Who has usurped the Sikh apex body the SGPC and is not allowing its elected members to take oath and work.
15.    Last but not the least which has employed thousands of touts on internet to mislead the Sikhs. The touts who are daily desecrating Sikh tenets. Congress is grossly ignoring India constitution which purportedly is supposed to be secular.
I say Parkash Singh Badal is really a brave person who can still survive for full 5 years as Chief Minister. We are nor even quite happy with him because at times he bows before the RSS or BJP to intolerable depths. Sometimes ago he even went to extent to say that the relation between BJP and SAD are that of husband and wife. We believe Badal is a good manager who can survive notwithstanding.

BLASPHEMY  ON FACEBOOK- LET US DEFEAT TOUT’S MOVE

Gursikhs should be aware that many people are jealous of high spirited Sikhs and salient features of Sikhism. So the jealous people just to vent their feelings post Sikh insulting material. Touts (and some foolish Sikhs also) loose no opportunity and are forwarding such  insulting photos/paintings on facebook to hurt the feelings of Sikhs. The Govt of India is upset with Sikhs' Chardi Kala character. The aim of the touts is to implement the Govt policy to ensure that the Sikhs loose this characteristic of being 'High spirited person. On the other hand you can't catch every mischievous person on earth. Mostly do with fake ids. So kill the post at the very first site. Don't forward it to any body.

Thus a true Sikh of the Guru will never promote such a dirty material i.e he will not ‘share’ ‘comment’ or ‘like’ such a photo. The best way to deal such things is to ignore and if it is in your command launch some legal prosecution. When you ignore such seditious publication it gets killed automatically.

I see since yesterday this photo of a clean-shaven person with gatra-kirpan (belt-sword) is being promoted by touts. It is the way you take things. I personally feel there is nothing wrong and blasphemous in this. Remember the gatra-kirpan was used by Pathans and Mughal soldiers even before Sikhs started its use.

I remember 6 months ago I found two south Indian young men coming out  of Golden Temple premises with gatra-kirpan on their waist. I smiled. The man said, “We have also become sardarji” and we exchanged pleasantries. They said they are damn impressed with the langar. On said, “Sardarji people don’t discriminate on caste in langar.” I said not only caste we ignore religion. I said have you marked doors on all the four sides of Golden Temple? I said they are for all the four varnas (groups of races) .One cried, “Oh God you are right!” I said say ‘o Guru Nanak you are great’ He said ‘Yes’. I said say ‘ Waheguru’ and you wont believe they shouted, “Waheguru ji ka khalsa..:

So friends it  is up to you how you take things. If I see something dirty I just ignore. It does hurts me. But I won’t like to hurt the feelings of my other friends by forwarding it. So friends try to ignore bad things. To see a bad thing if you get infuriated you bring success to the wrong man who posted it. If you ignore and don’t forward his purpose is defeated. Therefore friends learn to ignore certain things.

But please don’t ignore this message pass it on to maximum friends if you are well wisher of Gursikhi.

SANTI IN WEDLOCK WITH FATHER IN LAW

This is a true story of a family of village Pakiwan in Gurdaspur district.
Puran Singh’s (not real name) only son died of plague epidemic in around 1900 AD leaving his just married widow (Santi) behind.
The Hindu Family Act was not yet in force which means if a person died issueless his property would go to brothers.
Incidentally Santi had a quarrel with neighbour Puran’s brother’s wife who tauntingly told Santi that Santi was a mere caretaker as Puran’s property would ultimately slip in her hands one day.
Stung with jealousy Santi told it all to Puran and made a proposal for a marriage. Puran agreed caring little for the social norms.
Puran thus spread his sheet (chaddar paoni) publicly over Santi and they were in wedlock.
They had 3 daughters and 2 sons.  Their family is flourishing even today.
And of course it happens with Jatts only. In need the Jatt can throw out any social norm.

Today a friend has posted photo of ‘finger’ fast food. I don’t know what it is called in Punjabi or in English. It has reminded me of an episode. When in 1980, I joined as Inspector at Jamnagar (Guj). I happen to visit a narrow lane in city. I could hear a particular hissing industrial sound. On enquiry a boy told me, “pongli manufactured here.”

I entered the factory where again I came across a young owner aged not more than 18. I explained him about the act that where there are 10 persons employed the factory stands registered.
The boy replied me that he got only 7 employees. I said I can see 12 workers right before my eyes. He said, “7 our employees rest are bhaiyyas from Bihar.”
I said show me your records which he avoided. I explained him how cooperation on his part was important to avoid prosecution. He showed his helplessness on not showing records. 
I said I have to take a physical round of factory if I am not shown record or the third alternative is that he gave me a written promise. The boy wrote thus:-
“You have visited our factory today. We have only 7 employees. The other 5 you see are bhaiyyas from Bihar engaged on daily wage basis. We will produce records in 7 days.”
I took the letter and registered the factory as the employees strength was more than 9 (12). And a letter was issued to the factory for compliance of the act. After a week the young owner visited my office to say, “sahib tame bahu dhokebaaz chee (sir u r a deceitful person)”
It was strange for me to learn that the people don’t consider bhaiyyas as employees. Later in my services I found the practice was every where and believe me I registered hundreds of factories on the basis of this simple formula. Bhaiyyas are the most exploited class.
“ji sade kol 7 bande ne, baaki sabh bhiyye ne.”

3.    ਐਸ ਈ ਜ਼ੈਡ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੁਜਗਾਰ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ (ਇਕ ਆਈ ਏ ਐਸ ਅਫਸਰ ਆਰ ਐਸ ਐਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਕੈਂਸਲ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ।ਭਾਵ ਸਿੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਾਲੋ ਇਕ ਅਫਸਰ ਦੀ ਪਾਵਰ ਵੱਧ)
4.    ਇਤਹਾਸਿਕ ਕਿਲਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੜ੍ਹ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਖੋਲ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ
5.    5 ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਗੁਰੁ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਅਨ ਤੇ ਖਰਚੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ
6.    ਦਸਤਾਰ ਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਫਰਾਂਸ ਨਾਲ ਗਲ ਬਾਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਹਟਾਵਾਂਗਾ

BHAGWA IS BUDDHIST

My sporadic visits to ancient history- I come across stratling things. Will you believe the bhagwa the saffron colour the Hindu owns with pride is originally the Buddhist colour. At the decline of Buddhism around 8th C the monastries were converted to Shaivism very slowly in a very natural way. That is why saffron is supposed to be the colour of sanyasi the hermits who have abandoned home or wordly life. Will you believe the worship mode of the Jogis (Radha Swamis brand etc.) is Buddhist  in principle? Yes it is so. When u go to meditation in a posture without any recitation you lapse into Buddhist mode. Yogi’s focus of his  attention on nothingness is nothing but Buddhism. Guru Nanak is critical of this way i.e without uttering praises. In villages you still come across pyramids locally called Kala Mahar or Jathere the ancestors these are also the remains of Buddhist stupas. 

Ancient Brahmin's preferred colour was white. 

You will also be surprised to note that according to ancient Hindu scriptures the Brahmins were mostly non-vegetarian and would devour the meat of even big animals like the bullocks, horses, donkey, rhino, elephants etc.) Not only this in the religious rituals ohr hom yajnas these animals would be sacrificed. With the spread of Budhism and Jainism, Hinduism virtually vanished from North and East India. However after the resurrection around 8th C AD what the Brahminism reappeared was much different from the original one.  Later the Brahmin became vegetarian.

ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਤਵਾਰੀਖ ਵਲ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਫੇਰੀਆਂ- ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਕੀ ਮੰਨੋਗੇ ਕਿ ਭਗਵਾ ਰੰਗ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਏਨਾਂ ਲਗਾਅ ਆ, ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਬੋਧੀ ਰੰਗ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਨਿਆਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਕਿ ਘਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਭਿਕਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। 8ਵੀ. ਸਦੀ ਈਸਵੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਤੇੜੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੁੱਧਮਤ ਦਾ ਕਤਲਾਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਓਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਬੋਧੀ ਮੱਠਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗੋਰਖਨਾਥ ਜਿਹੇ ਯੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਭਿਖਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਭਗਤ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ। ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੋਇਆ। ਬੋਧੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਹੀਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੇਂਦਰਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਯੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿਓ। ਅਜ ਵੀ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਡੇਰੇ (ਰਾਧਾ ਸਵਾਮੀ ਮਾਰਕਾ) ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ‘ਚ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਟਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਸ਼ਬਦਹੀਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਤ ਸੁੰਨ (nothingness or zero) ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਹੀਣ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਜੋਰਦਾਰ ਖੰਡਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਫਿਰ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ‘ਚ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਬੁਰਜ ਜਿਹੇ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਲਾ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਜਠੇਰੇ ਕਹਾਉਦੇ ਨੇ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੋਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਤੂਪ (ਗੋਮਪਾ) ਦੇ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ।

ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਿਨ ਦਾ ਪਸੰਦੀਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਸੀ।

ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸਮਝ ਲਓ ਕਿ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਕਾਹਰੀ ਨਹੀ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਮਾਲ ਡੰਗਰ (ਘੋੜੇ, ਖੋਤੇ, ਬੈਲ, ਹਾਥੀ, ਗੈਂਡੇ ਆਦਿ) ਸਭ ਰਗੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਇਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਬੁਧਮਤ ਅਤੇ ਜੈਨ ਮਤ ਦੇ ਪਤਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਪੰਡਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਸ ਖਾਣਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਤਾ।

Later after some years the Nanakshahi Calendar was implemented by SGPC in Jan. 2003. The calendar worked well but the RSS was annoyed with it because it smelt independent entity of Sikhism. It used various methods to seek rejection of calendar and finally succeeded through Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma.
Here we are presenting the special issue of April 2000. It is still relevant as it defines the Nanakshahi: its merits and demerits.

HA HA!!! TODAY THE DATE IS 32 HARH..ਵਾਹ ਜੀ ਵਾਹ! ਕੀ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਕਦੀ 32 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਸੁਣਿਐ? ਅੱਜ ਹਾੜ ਦੀ 32 ਤਾਰੀਕ ਆ। ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮੀ ਕਲੈਂਡਰ ‘ਚ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਖਾਮੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਨੇ ਲਾਗੂ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਆਰ ਐਸ ਐਸ ਤੜਫ ਉਠੀ ਸੀ, ਅਖੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਕਿਉ ਰੱਖਣ। ਫਿਰ RSS ਨੇ ਦਮਦਮੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਹਰਨਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਧੁੰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਕਿ ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਬੰਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਜਿਸ਼ ਤਹਿਤ ਨਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਦਿਤਾ ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਦਾ ਮਖੌਲ ਉਡਾ ਦਿਤਾ। Wow!! Have ever heard of month of 32 days? Today the date is Harh 32. There r grave defects in Bikrami Calender. Accordingly a solar calender Nanakshahi was devised.  The Sikh apex body SGPC  in 2003 duly implemented the Nanakshahi. But RSS was infuriated, “How could the Sikhs have their separate calender?” Harnam Singh Dhuma head of Damdami Taksal was then used as a tool to oppose the Nanakshahi. Obviously SGPC under the control of Govt agreed in 2009 and Nanakshahi was rejected and Bikrami calender was enforced. Not only this, now they gave Bikrami the new name Nanakshahi. Naturally imitation things create such jokes.

Bikrami, a sidereal [based on a group of stars] calendar is the traditional Jantri of Punjabis and has some serious defects. Compared to Solar year, it is slower by 20 x 60 = 1200 seconds. As a result of which it becomes out of tune with seasons. For example in 532 AD Lohri was in December and nowadays it falls in January. The famous Vaisakhi of 1699 fell on March 29 and now a days on April  14. After some thousand years Vaisakhi will slip to winter. Any classical literature including Gurbani obviously refers to seasons. Thus, if the Jantri is not corrected, a day will come when the whole Punjabi literature will become irrelevant Common Era calendar had to so similar defects and was therefore corrected twice; in 46 and 1582 AD. Pal Singh Purewal developed a fool proof solar calendar and named it Nanakshahi Jantri. When the Sikh apex body SGPC intended to implement it, some mischievous organisations deployed their agents to oppose the Jantri in a very outrageous manner, the issue stands shelved, the SGPC  office now feels shy on talking on Jantri.  We present in the following pages both pro and anti Jantri views to find out that the opponents had more obstinacy than logic.
  Bikrami a sidereal calendar in vogue  in lndia is based on the nakshatras. Gregorian, Christian, or Common Era the most prevalent calendar in the world is based on Sun and most of its defects have now been removed.
However the year in CE calendar is faster by 26 seconds per year while the Bikrami calendar is faster by 20 X 60 =1 200 seconds. After every 71 years Bikrami is ahead by one day and thus loses its harmony with the solar time. Days keep on adding. For example the Vaisakhi in 1753 AD fell on April 9 and now it  comes on April 14. After 1100 years it will fall in the month of May while after 13000 years it will slip to October making Gurbani and other literature irrelevant as far as the seasons are concerned. Obviously there are several references to the seasons; like Asarh month is hot for those who are array from God.

  A calendar has to be based on Sun if it is to harmonise with seasons. Guru Nanak also approves a solar calendar p*H *I ryfumrrs3i*3?Au
Calendar being defective the anniversaries or Gurpurabs dates keep shifting [For details see Dr. Kharag Singh’s  article]  often also resulting into Two festivals in a year or no festival at all. The defects were noticed as back as in 1912 AD by Karam Singh Historian and Prof. Sahib Singh 1948 AD while Randhir Singh pleaded for correction in the year 1977. 
  Name Nanakshahi is not new. The Sikh Jantri  have  been using Nanakshahi samvat lsfutrisafi,A for almmt a oentury rmw by just computhg learfrom Guru Nanak's birtr. 
  Pal Slngh Purswal a Canadhn immigant worked on this calendar to remove the defeds and the new cabndar evolved is rtan€d !*msltshdri.

  WHO IS OPPOSED TO JANTRI? 
  Question is slmple, it is an improvernent in a calendar and why should any body oppose it? lt is interesting to ndethatuhen the opponent found no strcng objedion fiey went to the extent of eposing themselves. Their objection is why the Jantri is independent from any Hindu sptem? 
  Afier lndia was freed, the Govt. under Nehru decided to adopt a calendar. They found Bikrami unfit and thus the Govt adopted Saka catendar named after Kanishka, an ancient foreign invader to lndia. So Delhi can reject Bikramibut the Punjabiscant. 
  Those who knail Sikh hlstory and have cloeety obserued the polltics could rmgnise the real faces of those who oppos€ it. We know the Hlndus as I whole ane very tolerant and gentle people. You go to places beyond Punjab they would love to see a Sikh. Off late howeverihe media has played hwoc and the whole Sikh onrmunity stands maligned. Sikhs in foreign countries are always welcomed for being a  hardworking, straig htfomard, God fea ring & believing conmunity witr a distind irJentity. ln many international fora it has been appreciated that there is need to preserue this unique group from extinction. 
  As there are ahnrays some mischievous people in every community. The fanatics amoqg he RSS, Ar),a Samaj and others are desperate that the Sikhs be absorbed in Hinduism at the earliest. $ome castes are akeadyfast lapsing into Hinduism. [Asurvey of sylabii of Punjab schools reveals how a distorted image of Sikhism is being given to childrenl These fanatics feelthatthe Jantri is yet another assertion of separate Sikh identity. 
  ln past also whenever the Sikhs sought some reforms, antiSikh forces opposed the moves. For example the Singh Sabha mocmsnt was vehemently oppossd. lA/hen in 1920s the Sikhs unanted to free lheir shrines from the comrpt mahants they had to face the guns of 'Mahant,'supported by fanatics. Against the wishes of Sikhs ttiey inserted clauses in the lndian Constitution that the Sikhs are Hindus. Afler Partilion when Punjabiwas to be made the official language the fanatics opposed il. Punjabi Suba was qppos€d. Atthe tinre of Nirankari  Sikh collision they openly supported the Nirankaris. They opposed the Punjabi demands of Riparian Rights and territorial claims. Theirfaces got unmasked in 1984 when they supported Sikh persecution. However their Sant Bhinderanwale move boomeranged and they retaliated via Operation Blue Star. 
  \Mth theircells in the ruling par$ nowtheyare carrying out their plans more secretly through agents or mercenaries. ln the present case Punjab Min ister Balramji Das'london had only once hinted that the Jantri means assertion of Sikh identityand theiragents lost no time in training their guns. Their Sipahis the Sants opened fire on Jantri. 
  Jantri being just one, they have scuttled several such other important issues in which SGPC was not allowed free hand. For example
[a] Sikh pilgrim Jathas to Pakistlt Gurdwaras is stopped,
[b] SGPC is not being allowed to start their chanhelfor relay of Gurbani from Golden Temple when any body, street or colony can do it easily
[c] SGPC is not free to hoist the original blue or yellow coloured Sikh flag in accordance with the Sikh Code of Conduct and instead saffron colour of the Hindu is being hoisted etc.
[d] Amaritsar being the Sikh axis, attempts were made and are being made to create parallel centres. There is thus too much interference in the working of SGPC. 
  Who are their agents? 
  Succumbing to the fanatic ideology, the Congress had launched a secret programme to absorb Sikhs in the Hinduism by using
[1]some political parties and politicians and
[2]saints and mahants as their agent. Presently there are hundreds of so called saints who are preaching that the Sikhs are a sect of Hinduism. They do it by preaching and promoting ritualism. ln past they got tactical support from fanatics in Congress governments. Unfortunately successive governments including that of Janta Dal and BJP have onlyt oed the policy lay down by Nehru. 
  Presently the core group of these saints is organised under the banner of Gurbani Gurmat Sidhant Pracharak Sant Samaj. The difference in their teachings besides promotion of ritualism is that they avoid to preach Guru Nanak's concept of truthful living, submission before His will and exemplary behaviour. .They do not encourage their followers to understand Gurbani and  emphasise on its parrot like cramming a"d recitation. They encourage their own individual worship. 
  Thus bowing before the pressure of the Sarkari saints, the SGPC has consigned the Jantri to their archives  perhaps for ever.

  Sikhism has a unique feature in the form of Hukamnamas: religious edicts or promulgations. After Gurus the collective body of Sikhs has been using this authority vested in it through tradition. The Hukamnama has traditionally been issued from Akal Takhat in Amritsar the axis of Sikhism in the name of Akal Takhat Jathedar the priest. Since the edict has to be the collective voice or in accordance with conscience of the nation the Jathedar of Akal Takhat is supposed to consult head priests of other Takhats before the issue of edict. 
  ln recent past who ever was in control of SGPC has been misusing the authority of Hukamnamas and perhaps Jathedar G. S. Tohra misused it to maximum extent. 
  P.S.Badal the Chief Minister was more than once the target of edicts. Badal, it is felt, disagreed with the provision of this ‘extra constitutional authority’ to Takhat since he  was targeted. 
  Secondly the Govts at Delhi have also been sore over the gazette notifications issued from the parallel capital. 
  SGPC being in the control of Badal while Badal behaving a good boy before Delhi durbar. Giani Puran Singh their buddy was the Akal Takhat priest. Thus the present position most suited the Akal Takhat' opponents. They got implementation of Jantri stayed through Giani. ln his book Bullet for Bullet by J.F.Ribeiro has already hinted that Giani was a police informer. 'Though there is no harm in that, but the Sikhs treat such persons as black sheep. Worse being Giani played in the hand of anti-Sikh forces who controlled him from Delhi. It was killing two birds with one stone. Jantri was a dangerous thing for them and had to be stopped from implementation. More important was to curb the perennial 'nuisance' of hukamnamas’. Gianiji provided a golden chance. But it was slightly ill timed. As the SGPC budget was due to be cleared before 31-3-2OOO. The drama would have otherwise continued for some months. But a sense of discontent was found in the members of SGPC which meant open rebellion against Badal in which his adversary Tohra would have gained. Wings of Giani had to be clipped and he was unceremoniously relieved. To prove that he was the most faithful man he continued to issue hukamnamas to the last hour ; nay last minute. The whole idea being that the message was to be given that hukamnamas were the most ridiculous thing. 
  The move is more devastating and dangerous than Operation Blue Star itself wherethe attack was on bricks and mortar while now the target is the concept itself. How ever there is an element of relief that all attempts to demolish Akal Takhat or Golden Takhat have ultimately been humbled and Abdalis and lndiras had to eat humble pies ultimately. 
  Successor of Giani Puran, Joginder Singh Vedanti, a simpleton and obedient Granthi has hinted at the review of the working of SGPC and the relevant laws to amend the provisions that do not suit. Only future will reveal whether this announcement was a bonafide one or there is going to be a serious attempt to demolish the yet another axis of power besides Delhi.
