BADAL GOVERNANCE - TALK NO PUNJAB OR SIKH ISSUES. GET YOUR PERSONAL WORKS DONE (in Punjabi)

BADAL GOVT FROM 1997 TO 2002
TALK NO PUNJAB OR SIKH ISSUES. GET YOUR PERSONAL WORKS DONE
After long spells of Governor’s rule with sprinkles of local Congress rule (from 1980 to 1997) in Feb. 1997 then came to power the Badal’s Akali Dal. It however goes in the credit of Sardar Parkash Singh Badal that he can manage the opposite poles namely on one side the Congress in Centre and other the separatist Akalis. So when he completed his first term of 5 years in the power saddle we gave our humble comments  on his performance. It be noted Badal’s was the first non-Congress Govt in Punjab which successfully completed 5 years in power. We felt Badal pursued policy of adhocism. He avoided to tread on the issues which made the Centre uncomfortable. We felt Badal never touched those Punjab and Sikh issues and focused on ‘development’ of roads and streets and pleasing of political workers.
Also we had the opportunity to interview Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa a powerful leader in the Akali Dal who was then Union Minister of Food & Chemicals. When we asked him of the pending issues of the state his reply was, “Once we have ensured that a committee is formed to review Centre –State relations all issues will thus be tackled.”
We are therefore reproducing herewith two pages from our January  2002 issue with the hope some scholars might be amused to read it.
